Lets face it: we’re all a lot more emotionally invested in our favourite TV show than we should be — but can you blame us? Our TV shows are an integral part of our daily/weekly routine, whether it’s the latest show we’re bingeing on Netflix or an old favourite that we catch on TV on the weekly.

As we immerse ourselves in the fictional world of our favourite series, we unsurprisingly get equally and unhealthily attached to the show’s main characters — and how could we not? Creators and writers are the unsung heroes of TV as they continue to dream up characters who we tend to treat like real people — you know you do it too.

While we love our badass protagonists and sensitive swoon-worthy characters, everyone needs a loyal, honest, funny BFF who will always have their back in their livesand these characters from our favourite TV shows possess these qualities that would definitely have us opening another spot up in our #squad.

Here are the 8 TV characters who NEED to be our BFFs:

1. Cory Matthews, Boy Meets World

We doubt you’ll find a more loyal guy than Cory — just ask Shawn and Topanga. Through thick and thin Cory has proven to be there — no matter what — for those closest to him. From giving Shawn his most prized Christmas present during the holiday season when Mr. Hunter was laid off, to never giving up on his love for Topanga, he’s the kind of guy who will bend over backwards for his friends.

2. Brooke Davis, One Tree Hill

Hoes – and clothes – over bros is the #BDavis mantra for a reason. Regardless of what’s going down between her and her friends, she’ll drop everything to lend a helping hand, including risking her own life to save Peyton from her stalker, Psycho Derek.

3. Schmidt, New Girl

Simply for the hilarity that would ensue, we need Schmidt on speed dial (is that still a thing?).

4. Penelope Garcia, Criminal Minds

Penelope is everything you want in a BFF — bright, bubbly, cheeky and a little quirky. She’s super comfortable in her own skin and her skill set that’s made her an asset within the FBI’s Behavioural Analysis Unit would most certainly come in handy when digging up dirt on your enemies.

5. Kurt Hummel, Glee

Kurt is sassy and sarcastic —  but has a soft side. While he won’t shy away from letting you know you’re off key, he’ll sing your praises as you achieve your goals (we crack ourselves up). He always puts his friends first and would make the perfect shopping buddy.

6. Serena van der Woodsen, Gossip Girl

Is it wrong of us to want to get closer to Serena if only to borrow her clothes and get exclusive invites to the hottest parties in the Upper East Side? Probably, but #YOLO.

7. Asher Millstone, How To Get Away With Murder

Although his dark past has recently come to light, there’s something about Asher that draws you in. Whether it’s his quick wit, sharp style or high-brow education, he’s the kind of guy you want to be around. Plus, Matt McGorry is amazing in so many ways.

8. Jessica Jones, Jessica Jones

If you haven’t watched Jessica Jones yet what are you doing? The Marvel/Netflix original stars our dream BFF Jessica, a bad-ass superhero with a dark side who, although she will never admit, loves whole heartedly. She’s protective but stands for no nonsense and always has your back.
